Centralized Call Simulator

SIGMA is a centralised VoIP traffic generator able to reproduce every SIP call scenario in a flexible way. As a centralized server, SIGMA can be accessed by different groups of users via a web GUI.

This GUI provides access to a shared collection of call scenarios. These scenarios are made of SIP messages from the shared SIP messages library.
Flexibility being one of the main concerns, SIGMA comes with a powerful scenario scripting language and the possibility to modify every bit of the SIP messages.

SIGMA also provides a service availability solution. SIGMA can be scheduled to perform periodic calls and check if call is successful or not. Statistics about service availability are then calculated and alarms can be produced.

SIGMA also provides load testing functionality for VoIP platforms.

Call Simulation

SIGMA was developed on the basis of Netaxis Solutions 10 years experience in testing, troubleshooting, integrating and maintaining SIP-based solutions. SIGMA scenarios scripting language is a meta-language allowing users to build scenarios from the simplest to the most complex. The scripting language provides the basic building blocks (SIP messages handling and RTP handling). These simple building blocks give the freedom to build every kind of SIP call flow.

There is no limitation to the structure of SIP messages used by the scenarios. SIP messages can be modified exactly the way the user wants.

Key Features

  • Centralized Architecture
  • Simulate any possible call scenarios and protocol messages
  • Both signaling and media simulation
  • Configurable check and control
  • Reporting
  • Network Impairment simulation
  • PESQ

Benefits

  • Centralized simulation platform
  • Test automation and reporting
  • Regression testing
  • Unlimited customization
  • Real service availability monitoring

Protocols

  • SIP
  • RTP (voice codecs, DTMF events & special tones)

Call Interpretation

SIGMA can set a tested scenario as successful or not. This is the basis of the Service availability and test campaign described below. The decision on whether a test is successful or not is based on a configurable number of verifications at SIP and RTP levels.

SIGMA can check every single SIP header (presence/absence/content ) and the SIP call flow (sequence of messages). SIGMA can control Packet loss, Jitter, delay and PESQ.

Service Availability

Today, Voice over IP solutions are made of many different servers (SBC, CSCF, HSS, Enum, MGW, …). Receiving discrete alarms from one of these servers among the whole chain can be difficult to interpret in terms of real impact on the service availability.

SIGMA can be scheduled to automatically launch periodic scenarios. SIGMA will check the call flow and more specifically the final SIP answers in order to determine if call is successful or not. Statistics as charts are afterward available in the SIGMA GUI. Moreover SNMP alarms can be generated if the percentage of successful calls drops under a configurable value.

Test Campaign

SIGMA can group scenarios in a test list. SIGMA can afterwards run this test list at a scheduled moment. Specific checks can be configured for each scenario and full reports including details on issues are produced.

Load Tests

Several scenarios can be launched in parallel to load test SIP platforms. The user specifies how many instances to launch simultaneously and the scenarios interval. Statistics about these calls are provided by SIGMA.
