Systems for Number Porting are at different stages of evolution and maturity in countries around the globe. In some, often very long established and slow to change markets this is still very much a manual process with back office functions frequently outsourced to low labour cost parts of the world.
The process of porting a telephone number is fairly complex and the downsides of things going wrong are very much visible to end users. Netaxis are in the forefront of technological advances in the Number Portability field which involves far more than merely maintaining a database of who should be associated with a given number and which provider is responsible for the service.

Our API Orchestrator (APIO) is used to automate the administrative part of the process and the Session Routing Engine (SRE) for the real time call processing. The latter can involve a wide variety of functions/scenarios such as call blocking (e.g. bad payer or fraud cases), advanced call filtering, number translation for freephone, short number of universal access number, service location function which require routing intelligence not normally present in a class 5 switch or SBC.
